Musical Refreshments

So you are shuffling through your ipod, cd player, tape collection (yes some of us still listen to them) and you realize that you have not changed your music selection in god knows how long. Tired of listening to the same 800 songs over and over again? Well, for those looking to rejuvenate their music selection, here's one of our poll winner suggestions that can refresh that musical monotone.

First up is N.E.R.D, aka No one Ever Really Dies. Now if this band sounds vaguely familiar, it should; Remember a sweet little diddy called "Lapdance" gentlemen? How about the infamous high school student anthem "Rockstar?" Those two songs were from N*E*R*D's first album  In Search Of..., released in 2001. You probably already know one of the co-founders, Pharrell Williams, from his work withchildhood friend Chad Hugo as the duo the Neptunes. Since their formation in the early 90's, the Neptunes have worked with artists such as Gwen Stefani, Daft Punk, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Jay-Z. Pharrell, Chad, and their friend Shay decided to start their own side band in 2001 and thus N*E*R*D was born! Some people define N*E*R*D's music as Hip-Hop, Funk, and Rock, but even that would be to specifically defined for this band. Their music is TANG for your ears and if you're listening to it you will not need Red Bull to give you wings; it's music that ranges from mellow to rhythmically intoxicating and it covers all sorts of topics life has to offer. The trio has three albums under their belt: In Search of..., Fly or Die..., and Seeing Sounds. Their fourth album, Nothing, will be released in November of this year. Until then, follow the links above and below to get a taste of the awesomeness they've been brewing for more than a decade and here's their Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N.E.R.D

"Maybe" Fly or Die

"Sooner or Later" Seeing Sounds
"Everyone Nose (All the Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom)" Seeing Sounds

"Hot 'N' Fun" Nothing

Drifting Through the Past

A few days ago, I finally managed to get the entire Final Fantasy X Soundtrack. As I sat there listening to the "the Song of the Fayth" and rocking out to "Seymour's Battle theme," I realized...HOLY CRAP IT'S BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE I FIRST ENCOUNTERED THIS GAME!!!!!!!!! The sweet love story, the lovable characters, the game's morals meant more to me then anyone could imagine; I have the tattoo to prove it....
I learned something from that game that acts as a constant strength: "This is my Story." We often go through life complaining and whining about it's stresses, it's ups and downs, but rarely do we spend just as much time  living life to the fullest. "This is our Story-" this life is ours to narrate and compose into a rich manuscript that we can one day look over and smile, knowing we soaked up both the sunshine and downpours life had to offer.

FFX is not the only game that brings back nostalgia. Remember Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil?  'Til this day I have not the slightest clue what language those characters are speaking, nor have I been able to determine Klonoa's species (bunny? cat? bunny x cat? O.O)- and I think his air-ring is really just a pressurized medium for his spectacular bunny x cat qi. I can remember being worried about this game when I first saw it...wondering "what the hell did my mom pick up and why?" But, that little guy grew on me . That was a fun 2D/3D side scroller...and sometimes, when I hear "WAAAAAHOOOO" I giggle like a giddy school girl.

It's just little things like this that bring back memories for me. Off to play some NES Ultimate Stuntman. ;)
